Tea Ceremony Room Chosho-an

 
 

Chosho-an, originally designed by the architect Mitsuhiko Otani, was rebuilt by Yoshio Taniguchi adjacent to the Japanese Cuisine Yamazato. Enjoy matcha green tea in the renowed tea ceremony room.

“A Celebration of Victorian Jewellery - Love, Leisure and Ceremony”

 
 

The reign of Queen Victoria was the most prosperous period of the British Empire. This exhibition introduces the glamorous and elegant world of the British upper class through the dresses, laces, and silverware that adorned their lifestyles, with a focus on European antique jewelry, including jewelry associated with the British royal family, which has fascinated many people since that time.

Vegan Buddhist Cooking Class

Bring balance to your body, and find Zen with your mind, through the plant-based cuisine of Buddhist monks. Buddhist beliefs discourage killing animals, so neither fish nor meat are consumed, and in most cases, traditional Buddhist cuisine is vegan. Adhering to mindfulness throughout the process, ingredients are treated with care and each part is incorporated into the meal.
Tour the temple near The Okura Tokyo and learn about the tradition of Shojin Ryori. Then cook and enjoy seasonal sweets served with Japanese green tea, inside the temple grounds.

Soba Noodle Making Class

Beginning in the Edo Period, soba noodles became a household food staple in Japan. Soba, which are noodles made from buckwheat flour, are served either cold with chilled “tsuyu” sauce or hot with dashi broth. In Japan, you will often hear soba noodle-slurping sounds because it is said to enhance the flavor of the soba and communicate enjoyment of the noodles.
After changing into a uniform, you will learn about buckwheat flour, different kinds of soba, and then knead and cut soba noodles. Then enjoy your own handmade soba noodles along with tempura, soba-tofu and soba ice cream!

Wadaiko Festival Drumming Class

Having its mythological origins in Japanese folklore, the taiko was said to be invented when a goddess danced on top of a sake barrel to lure the sun goddess Amaterasu out from hiding. Since its historical origins in the 6th century, the taiko has traditionally been used in theater, warfare, and religious ceremonies.
Learn basic techniques and start playing right away! After a fun round at the taiko drums, learn more about Japanese music with other traditional instruments.
