A journey into the elegance and timeless tradition of tea
The hotel's Urasenke 'Yuin'-style Chosho-an tea room was originally designed by architect Mitsuhiko Otani but it was dismantled when the main hotel was rebuilt. The new Yoshio Taniguchi-designed hotel repositioned the tea room adjacent to the Yamazato restaurant and revived this timeless tradition. Today, Chosho-an is a peaceful retreat where guests can enjoy an authentic Japanese tea ceremony.
Guests will have the unique opportunity to personally prepare Japanese tea under the guidance of our tea masters. Immerse yourself in the history and culture of the tea ceremony as you learn the art of whisking matcha, accompanied by carefully selected seasonal confectionery.
Marvel at the room's incredibly detailed craftsmanship—from its coffered bamboo ceiling to the wooden floor beams that have been polished smooth after years of use—and savor the serene ambiance that has made this tea room a peaceful retreat.
You can enjoy this immersive tea ceremony experience all year round on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays starting at 12:00 / 13:30 / 15:00.
The Chosho-an tea room can be found on the 4th floor of the Okura Heritage Wing at Yamazato restaurant.
Please reserve your space at the tea ceremony at least 7 days in advance.
The immersive tea ceremony experience costs ¥5,000 per person (minimum two people), which includes consumption tax and a 15% service charge.
The immersive tea ceremony experience lasts approximately 60 minutes.
For guests who would simply like to enjoy matcha and seasonal confectionery without participating in the tea-making process, a shorter 30-minute session is also available at ¥3,000 per person.
Reservations for this simplified experience are accepted by phone only.
